The world's most flexible & sustainable tube

The bend tube for flexible steering columns

FLEXtube is the new, sustainable solution that keeps your steering column flexible. Instead of costly drawn tubes, a flexibly usable bend tube is employed – with noticeably lower CO₂ emissions and a more efficient process. The result is the most flexible and at the same time most sustainable tube for modern steering systems.

Why FLEXtube

Defined bending forces and flexible geometries – tailored to the requirements of modern steering systems.

Lower bending forces

Bending forces are tailored to customer requirements, allowing the steering column to bend in a controlled way in a crash.

Less CO₂

The bend tube replaces complex hydroformed corrugated tubes. A more efficient manufacturing process reduces CO₂ emissions compared with this conventional approach.

Efficient & compatible

Modern forming replaces complex production, saves cost and weight, and offers flexible usability. Ideal for combining with speedFORMING.

Maximum flexibility

Bending angles up to 180° – ideal for movable steering columns and demanding installation spaces.

  1. 01

    Provide production tube

A tube matched to the application forms the starting point.

  2. 02

    Local cold forming

The functional FLEXtube geometry is formed without hydraulic internal pressure.

  3. 03

    Inspect & finish

Geometry and function are verified without the complex convolution-forming chain.

  • Fewer process steps and less equipment commitment
  • Targeted buckling zones without continuous bellows
  • Potential for lower energy and process-media demand

Conventional metal bellows

Conventional metal bellows
  1. 01

    Thin-walled pre-tube

Form strip into a tube and longitudinally weld it, or use a suitable drawn tube.

  2. 02

    Pre-treatment

Depending on material and forming degree, an annealed preform or heat treatment may be required.

  3. 03

    Hydraulic expansion

High internal pressure forms the sealed tube into a pre-convolution.

  4. 04

    Axial closing

The die closes axially and turns the preform into the final convolution.

  5. 05

    Inspect & finish

Geometry, tightness and function are checked; further finishing may follow.

  • Continuous bellows structure instead of targeted buckling zones
  • Several forming and coordination steps
